what is

floriographie*?

Coined in 1819 by Charlotte de la Tour in Le langage des fleurs or The Language of Flowers, floriography (in French, floriographie) involves arranging flowers according to clandestine codes arising from literature, mythology, religion, and the shapes of blooms.

floriographie.studio takes inspiration from the Victorian art of floriography and adds a contemporary twist.

* From the Latin florem (nominative flos), and f Italian fiore and Spanish flor), the word floriographie also comes from the Proto-Indo-European root *bhel, which means to thrive, bloom” + graphein "to write" (see -graphy).

floriographie.studio is a member of the Slow Flower Movement, which advocates for the local, seasonal, and sustainable sourcing of cut flowers. It mirrors the Slow Food Movement, which encourages conscious consumption and supporting domestic flower farmers.

While floriographie.studio focuses on the arrangement of local, seasonal, and sustainable flowers, our local flower garden is a steadfast source of our inspiration.
